One of several species of small Carnivora of the genus {Genetta}, allied to the civets, but having the scent glands less developed, and without a pouch. [1913 Webster] Note: The common genet ({Genetta vulgaris}) of Southern Europe, Asia Minor, and North Africa, is dark gray, spotted with black. The long tail is banded with black and white.
